I went ahead and wrote to the CEO/President of the credit union. Because of their negligence of reporting to long-time customers (14+ years) like me, I still have to suffer. However, I was unable to get my home loan and my score went down 50 points. I was at the impression that when I pay off they will remove this from the credit bureau since it is their fault they never ever reported this to me in 1 year and then directly reported it to Credit Bureaus without my knowledge. I immediately raised this concern with them and they told me to pay this off even though there is a fraud transaction happening in my PayPal account they are not responsible for that. I never knew this happening in 2018 and Freedom First Credit Union never reported this to me at any time between 2018 until I found out from the credit reports in mid-2019. After I investigated this further I noticed Paypal requesting payment from Freedom first and Freedom first kept paying Paypal that amount even after my account depleted. I immediately knew this is something to do with the fraudster using my account or something or freedom first applying a lot of fees on my account and it went negative. I was surprised to see that the $96 collection unpaid from Freedom First.
However, in May 2019 I saw a collection on all my 3 credit reports when I was applying for a home loan. I did receive letters from the Freedom first insurance department once in a few months to all my new addresses. Occasionally I log in to check and everything seems fine until 2018-2019. Since there is no fee to maintain this checking account, I kept this account with a minimum balance of $100+ thinking I might return back to Virginia one day so I can start using it by then. I have been using the account without issues for several years. I opened a checking account with Freedom First Credit Union when I joined the graduate program at ******** **** in 2004.
